The quality of the teachers directly determines the implementation of quality education in our country.Experiences and thoughts from a model teacher have great value on teachers' professional development for other teachers.Teacher's professional development is relatively delayed in Chongqing minority areas.Some well-qualified English teachers are in bad need.We analyze excellent teachers' growth,so other teachers may learn from valuable experiences when they are suffering a bottleneck period.Force of example stimulates youths who want to work in minority area.The subject of study in this paper is an excellent English teacher who has taught for more than 30 years in minority area,though he had many chances to get a better job.Narrative research is a kind of educational action research based on narrative mode.It can be defined as description and explanation of teaching experiences and events.This paper aims to do a narrative study of an English teacher from ethnic minority area,and tries to answer the following questions:(1)What important stages has Mr.Cui experienced in his career development and what typical stories does he have at each stage?(2)What are vital to his career development from a green hand teacher to an experienced one?(3)How about his features of career development?According to Mr.Cui's development character,his life journey can be divided into three stages: school life(college life)and a green hand teacher,his maturing period,his mature period.During his college life,he laid a solid foundation by reading widely,reciting classical essays and so on.After graduation,Mr.Cui was employed as an English teacher in a normal university.Soon he made a big decision to teach in a minority school since English teacher was badly needed there.In the beginning,teaching condition was so tough that Mr.Cui had to make teaching aids and materials by hand.At the same time,Mr.Cui adopted an interactive teaching in his class.During his maturing period,Mr.Cui created a happy and harmony atmosphere,treated students equally,organized English short plays and applied new approaches that he had learned from the training.At the mature period,Mr.Cui has not only renewed teaching concepts but also reformed his teaching constantly since he wants to keep pace withthe times.Mr.Cui always applies “parliamentary system” to arousing students' interest in class management.To fulfill his goal,Mr.Cui has made full use of various teaching resources ranging from English newspaper,salons to videos.Also,Mr.Cui has made micro lectures for students.Mr.Cui keeps improving teaching approaches and management measures.Especially,he teaches students in accordance with their aptitude and through lively activities.Lots of examples have shown in this paper.From a new teacher into a model one,four factors that influence his development: pleasant personality,patterns of thinking,specialty literacy and the influence of key figures.All in all,Mr.Cui is warmly welcomed by colleagues and students.Now he grows to be an excellent English teacher in minority area.
