Based on the theories of socialization and mass communication function,this study uses the theories of communication and sociology,applies the method of quantitative research and qualitative research.By performing questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews in Zongyang County,Tongling City,Anhui Province,this study researches the impact of media on the socialization of left-behind children in rural areas.The questionnaire survey and SPSS statistical analysis reveals the relationship between the media use behavior and their socialization,and facilitates the study of the influence of media on left-behind children's socialization.In addition,field research and interviews explores the influence of family,community,school and peers on the socialization of this children.Generally,the full paper is divided into six parts:The first chapter introduces the origin,purpose and significance of this research,and reviews previous researches.The second chapter expounds the contents of this study,declares sample selection,measurement methods,analysis framework,and the definition of related concepts.The third chapter descriptively analyzes the basic characteristics of media use and the status of left-behind children's socialization.Specially,SPSS statistic analysis is used to inspect the features of the sample population,such as family background and left-behind situation.Meanwhile,it also analyzes their behavior characteristics in using media such as television,mobile phones,computers and books,and investigates their socialization status which is revealed through character,life skills,moral quality,interpersonal communication and inner feelings.The fourth chapter illustrates the influence of media use on the socialization of the left-behind children.This study tries to explore the relationship between the social background of the left-behind children and their socialization status,and research the relationship between the media use of left-behind children and their socialization status.The fifth chapter analyzes the other factors which may affect the socialization of the left-behind children by researching the influence of family,school,community,peers and other factors on the socialization of the left-behind children in rural areas,and by using the field research information and interviews.The last chapter concludes the results of the empirical research and the qualitative research of this paper.Based on these findings,this paper also provided some suggestions on how to use media to positively influence the socialization of left-behind children in rural areas.The main conclusions are as follows:Firstly,in rural areas,the proportion of children left-behind is high and the number is large.Parents of 60%of rural children works outside hometown,and more than half of the fathers work far away from home for more than 9 months every year.As a result of lacking parental emotional support and family education,the majority of left-behind children have negative inner feelings,and their overall life satisfaction is significantly lower than non-left-behind children.Secondly,time spend on mobile phone usage of rural children outweighs that spend on extracurricular books and television.Previous studies show that rural children have the highest degree of contact to television and extracurricular books.However,this paper discloses that rural children's mobile phone usage has exceeded watching television and reading extracurricular books.Data shows 25.3%of left-behind children and 33.3%of non-left-behind children have personal mobile phones,and 20%of left-behind children and 33.4%of non-left-behind children use phones every day for more than 1 hour.Thirdly,left-behind children prefer to go through entertaining subjects on media.The top three favorite TV catalogers are the TV series(66.7%),Cartoon(62.7%),and various entertainment programs(57.3%).The favorite three TV programs are "Run It Brother","Happy Camp","Day Day Up".On the side,for extracurricular books,the left-behind children love to read fairy tale(45.8%),youth reading(45.8%),spirits(41.7%).Also,in the use of mobile phones and computers,the most commonly used functions are listening music,playing games,QQ/We Chat and other instant messaging apps.Fourthly,the overall situation of left-behind children socialization is well,and there is no significant difference with non-left-behind children.To be specific,the scores of personality,life skills and moral quality of left-behind children are slightly lower than those of non-left-behind children,and the self-rated scores of interpersonal communication is slightly higher than that of non-left-behind children.The self-rating of children left-behind in inner feelings is significantly lower than that of non-left-behind children,and the inner emotional characteristics of left-behind children are more negative.The left-behind children that have better relationship at school and at home get a higher self-rating on their own personality traits,moral qualities,interpersonal and inner feelings.Fifthly,the type,duration and content preferences of media use can affect the social status of left-behind children.Fixed-line,television and other media use impact the left-behind children's character,inner feelings,etc.The longer they use Mobile phone and tablet computer,the more negative the left-behind children's inner feelings is.The moral quality of left-behind children who prefer TV cartoons over others is higher,while the moral quality of left-behind children who prefer mobile internet,computer chat,using computer to listen music(download music)and books about military,their self-rating score is lower.Read books related to humanity can affect the inner feelings of left-behind children.Besides,children relationship at school has the most important impact on left-behind children's personality and interpersonal relationships.Lastly,the cultural order in rural area is being breaking:population structure becomes imbalance;community education function is weakening.The physical space,population structure and cultural environment of the village are important factors of socialization of the left-behind children.At present,only the elderly,children and women live in rural areas,and the population structure imbalance is serious.At the same time,the traditional farming culture is declining,and the new cultural order has not been established.The spiritual world in rural area is barren,and many villages share the distorted values such as "Money Above All".
