Research On The Influence Of Marathon On Urban Economic Development Based On Double Difference Model

With the development of Chinese economy,the willingness to expand the image and influence will continue to strengthen,holding influential events become a booster force of urban development.As a sports event of running culture,marathon is so easy to participant and non professional,which make it developed rapidly.Since 2000,the city marathon has increased,and the competition has expended.Especially in the last two years,having seen the huge impact of holding marathon on the economy,many cities have followed suit.The number of events increased so much that the marathon over heated,which has attracted many scholars to study it.At the same time of marathon developing,we should think calmly about the influence of city marathon on tne development of urban economy,and whether the marathon promote the development of urban economy,which need to be verified.Based on the development course of the chinese city marathon and the previous literature researvh,this article uses the literature material method and empirical analysis to study the relationship between the urban economic development and the marathon.This article selects the 59 cities(including 35 cities held a marathon as treatment group),using the double difference model to study the relationship between the marathon and urban economic development.Considering the marathon impact on economic growth is likely to appear with differences different size,as well as the impact on economic of marathon might be lag,this article also joined the points in the empirical model of diagnosis and the lag issue.The results found that a marathon has significant positive influence on the urban economic development and its coefficient as the rise of the urban comprehensive strength;That is to say,holding marathon can really promote the development of regional economy,and with regional natural endowment and the comprehensive strength rise,the host city from marathon to get a bigger role in promoting.There is a certain lag in the impact of marathon on urban economic development.
