English Syllabus for Secondary Vocational School puts forward high requirements of the reading ability.It means that students can guess the meaning of words according to the context,know how to infer and judge according to the information,as well as understand common themes of reading materials.However,English teachers in secondary vocational schools realize that depending solely on English textbooks can hardly stimulate students’ interest in reading as well as improve students’ English reading abilities.A survey on English reading teaching of two classes at Linping Vocational High School has been done.The following three points should be paid more attention to:(1)Students were lack of confidence and interest in English reading and they could not actively participate in the classroom reading activities.(2)Students were lack of relevant knowledge of British and American cultural background and they had difficulty in understanding reading articles.(3)Students were lack of systematic reading skills training and they had poor reading skills.The core content of the micro lecture is the classroom teaching video.It also includes the teaching materials related to the subject of teaching,practice and students’ feedback,teachers’ comments and other supplementary teaching resources.After the implementation of the new curriculum reform,the micro lecture has been accepted by many schools and teachers in improving students’ autonomous learning ability and strengthening the learning effect.This study starts with the present situation in English reading teaching of our secondary vocational school with theapplication of micro lecture,in order to assist and enhance the effectiveness of secondary vocational English reading teaching,improve the students’ performance in reading class,improve students’ English reading ability and help students pass PETS-1.Meanwhile,the thesis discusses the feasibility of the implementation of the micro lecture and puts forward some suggestions for the improvement of the teaching.The subjects of this study are students from two classes of Grade Two majoring in numerical control.There are 36 students in the experimental class and 48 students in the controlled class.The experiment was conducted for one semester.The micro lecture is used to guide the English reading teaching of the experimental class,while the controlled class still adopts the traditional reading teaching method.Through the use of questionnaire,interview,test and other research tools,the thesis tries to answer the following two questions:(1)In what way can micro lecture influence English reading teaching in a secondary vocational school?(2)What is the attitude of students towards the application of micro lecture of English reading teaching?Based on the theory of Constructivism,the researcher emphasizes the central position of students.Through case study,the application of micro lecture in English reading teaching was presented.Through the questionnaire survey,the changes of attitude of the students in the experimental class and the controlled class were compared before and after the experiment.A questionnaire survey on the attitude of the application of the micro lecture in the experimental class was also conducted.According to the research,it was found that the micro lecture is effective in improving the students’ interest in reading,deepening the understanding of the reading text,supplementing British and American cultural background knowledge and visually displaying reading skills.The final examination before and after the experiment were the pre-test and post-test data.Analyses by SPSS 23.0 statistical analysis software showed that the improvement of reading scores in the experimental class was significantly higher than that in the controlled class,which further explains the effectiveness of application of the micro lecture teaching model in English readingclass.In addition,it can be found from the data analysis that the application of micro lecture is only moderately related to the improvement of students’ reading performance,which indicates that the micro lecture alone is not enough to do a good job in the teaching of English reading in secondary vocational schools.Therefore,it is suggested that the micro lecture should be used as an auxiliary method to optimize the teaching of English reading.
