English occupies high proportions in the curricula of senior high schools, which has a big influence on the overall high school life. The main objective of high school English teaching is to cultivate students' basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation as well as the comprehensive abilities and skills to use the English knowledge. However,in general, students' learning needs are ignored in the current senior high English teaching, and there are some problems existing:educational institutions make teaching syllabuses and plans blindly;the curriculum designs in schools are dull and the teaching materials lack of interestingness;English teaching is teacher-oriented and teachers' teaching methods are single, etc. As a consequence, the comprehensive abilities of high school students are still low.The fundamental reason is that educational institutions, schools and teachers have no understanding of students, needs, and there is a lack of necessary and complete analysis on the needs of senior high school students' English learning.Throughout the current study of foreign language learning needs at home and abroad,it mainly concludes:the theoretical study and the empirical study of contents for the social groups or the college groups. However, there is a lack of empirical studies to the needs of senior high school students' English learning. This study focuses on the comprehensive analysis of high school students' English learning needs, hoping that various aspects of learning needs will be paid more attention to in English teaching in senior high schools,so as to meet high school students' English learning needs and improve the effects of English teaching in high schools.Based on the needs analysis theory, this study makes an investigation on the opinions of students' current English learning needs by taking 207 students and 10 English teachers in senior high school as the investigation subjects and collecting data by using the methods of questionnaires and interviews. The purpose is to survey the current English learning needs of senior high school students and find some corresponding measures to satisfy these needs. The research will be conducted revolving around the following specific questions:1)What are the students' English learning needs in senior high schools right now?2)Presently in high school, what are the gaps between the current English teaching situation and students' real English learning needs? The collected data will be analyzed by the EXCEL software for more scientific and more effective analysis. The survey suggests that there are various learning needs in English for senior high school students right now, like the establishment of good English learning foundation, stimulation of interests in learning, designs of curricula and teaching materials, the choice of teaching methods, reasonable arrangement of class time and the needs for teachers' high qualities and the improved surrounding environment. At the same time, there are great gaps between the current English teaching situation and students' real learning needs in senior high schools. Therefore,in senior high English teaching,it is necessary to arrange more English classes appropriately, focus on senior high students' English learning needs, create more specific and beneficial situations to let students have chances to communicate in English, and perfect examination methods, etc;in addition,it's very essential to minimize the gaps between the English teaching situation and students' real learning needs as much as possible,so as to inspire senior high school students' learning interests greatly, improve high school students' English levels, and provide favorable conditions for the development of high school English teaching.
