In recent years,with the development and the rise of positive psychology,mental toughness has become an important field of psychological research.Resilience refers to the good adaptation when individual facing the adversity,trauma,or significant negative event which come from life.It is the ability of "rebound" towards stress or setbacks.The psychological development of middle school students has not yet mature,they endure the pressure from study and life in various every day.Therefore,it is particularly important to protect the healthy development of the individual to have a certain level of resilience to buffer the stressors.The study uses the Adolescent Mental Resilience Scale,the Adolescent Personality Scale and the Coping Style Questionnaire to explore the relationship between mental toughness,personality traits and coping styles.Subjects are 789 middle school students.The results are as follows:(1)The resilience of the middle school students is generally on the medium level which is well adapted.(2)There is no significant difference in resilience among gender,only child and non-only child,grade and place of origin;there are significantdifferences in the dimensions of target focusing,emotional controlling and interpersonal supporting between gender;there is significant difference in the dimension of target focusing in child and non-only child as well as place of origin;there is significant difference in the dimension of positive cognition among grades.(3)There are significant differences in the dimensions of agreeableness and openness of personality traits between gender;there is significant difference in the dimension of openness of personality traits among only child and non-only child as well as place of origin;there are significant differences in the dimensions of extraversion,conscientiousness,openness and emotion of personality traits among grades.(4)There is no significant difference in coping styles among gender,only child and non-only child,place of origin;there is significant difference in the positive coping style among grades.(5)There is significant correlations among resilience,personality traits and two coping styles;resilience is significant negatively correlated with the dimension of emotion and positively correlated with other dimensions of personality traits and significant positively correlated with positive coping style and negatively correlated with negative coping style;the dimensions of extraversion,agreeableness,conscientiousness and openness of personality traits are significant positively correlated with positive coping style;the dimension of emotion of personality traits issignificant negatively correlated with positive coping style;the dimensions of extraversion,openness and emotion in personality traits are significant positively correlated with negative coping style and the dimension of caution in personality traits is significant negatively correlated with negative coping style.(6)There are significant differences in personality traits and coping styles among high,medium and low resilience groups.(7)The dimensions of extraversion,openness,agreeableness and conscientiousness of personality traits significant positively predict resilience,the dimension of emotion of personality traits negatively predict resilience;positive coping significant positively predict resilience,negative coping style significant negatively predict resilience.Conclusion: Positive coping style plays a partial mediating role between extraversion,agreeableness,conscientiousness,openness and resilience,while negative coping plays a partial mediating role between extraversion,conscientiousness,emotionality and resilience.
