A Study Of Wu Yuzhang's Thoughts On Moral Education

Wu Yuzhang(1878-1966),as a famous revolutionist,educator and historian,devoted his whole life to the cause of education.Wu Yuzhang had served as the president or dean of a number of universities and colleges,and highly emphasized moral education.However,there are few in-depth researches and findings on Wu's thoughts about moral education.Therefore,previous researches on Wu's thoughts were collected and read.Reading relevant works of Wu,the author sorted out his ideas on moral education,and put forward several her own views.The theoretical and practical sources of his moral education thoughts are analyzed on the basis of essence that Wu absorbed from previous theoretical achievements and his educational practice,which is based on defining the connotation of Wu's moral education.Wu's moral education thoughts are divided into contents of moral education,principles of moral education and methods of moral education.The moral education includes education on worldview,education on political outlook,education on life outlook,education on legal outlook,education on moral outlook and education on labor outlook.The principles of moral education consist of principle of orientation,principle of practice,principle of hierarchy,principle of demonstration and principle of democracy.The methods of moral education are composed by theory inculcation,practice training and self-education.Based on the analysis and summarization of the first two parts,the author considers that Wu's thoughts about moral education has two principal distinction that it has vivid class nature and practicality.Accordingly,the author summarizes the important historical status of Wu's moral education.Wu's thoughts on moral education have positive impacts on the moral education during the old democratic revolution and the new democratic revolution,and became one of the most dominant theoretical evidences inguiding the work of moral education in universities during the socialist revolution and construction.Moreover,the value of Wu's moral education thoughts cannot be ignored which includes creation of good environment of moral education in family,cultivation of excellent school spirit,improvement of comprehensive quality of young teachers in universities,cultivation of talents in philosophy and Social Sciences,guidance to the youth to establish a firm ideals and beliefs.
