Research On Present Situation And Effect Of The Undergraduate Research In High-level University

The Undergraduate Research(UR)originates from the concept of "Combination of Teaching and Research" by Humboldt,and goes into order and spreads all over the world by the promotion of American Research University.The Undergraduate Research activities in American Research University also attracts many countries to learn from.In 1998,Tsinghua University introduce the UROP(the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program)from MIT,which is the sign of the development of the undergraduate research in our country.Until today,almost all universities implements this activity,especially in the high level universities.So under the background of new era,especially the strategy of "Double Creations",how the UR works to the talent cultivation in university?And what is the present situation and effects today?These discussions on the above basic issues constitute the main purpose of this study.Firstly,by sorting out the history of the UR,we explore the basic logic of its development,and find that the UR 's purpose is to cultivate talents since its beginning,and it did this in practice.Secondly,through the analysis of the literature,we point out that the UR's role on cultivating talents is understood from two aspects respectively,direct and indirect effects,including the professional knowledge,the research ability,the cooperation and communication ability,the innovative thinking,the interest and potential aspects.On these basis,we conduct a questionnaire survey on the present situation and effects of the UR activities in four "985-Project" sponsored universities in Shanghai,through a descriptive analysis of the survey,we found that the UR can promote the development of the innovation ability of students,bring more practice skills than professional knowledge,conpensate for the lack of classroom teaching effectively,and develop their interest and potential,give more help to them in getting higher degree and doing pioneering work.But there are still many problems,the main problems of the UR,which are the weakness of the academic foundation,the conflict between research and curriculum,the lack of external motivation to participate in research,and the lack of independent research and personal creativity and so on.To solve these problems,we also put forward the corresponding suggestions from the macro and micro perspectives.We must first set up the scientific idea about personnel traning,and bring the UR into the personnel traning system.Secondly,establishing a reasonable system of scientific research in university,which is to provide institutional guarantee for the UR.Thirdly,expanding more financing channels,and provide adequate funding for the UR.Finally,university should strengthen the hardware and create a good research atmosphere.
