Nowadays, the cultivation on students’biological science literacy gains more and more attention, therefore the core concept of teaching becomes very significant. The core biological concepts play the role of determining relevant concepts, the study on the core biological concepts not only requires previous concept accumulation, but it could rectify and improve the preconception. Therefore, to guide students to construct the core biological concepts in high school biology teaching could effectively cultivate students’ capacity in self-construction of the conceptual system, thus to improve their thinking ability and enhance the scientific literacy. As the learning tool fitting the operating mechanism of the human brain, mind mapping could effectively develop students’ divergent thinking and the ability of knowledge collation and analysis, therefore, it would have practical significance to apply mind mapping in the core concept teaching.With the second year students from the two classes where I teach in the 3rd Middle School of Fuzhou respectively as the experimental class and control class, this paper studies the teaching practice using mind mapping for core concept construction, tests the students’ academic levels of the two classes before and after, analyzes the results and gains the conclusion that mind mapping could effectively promote the core concept construction. After the interviews on the students and reflections on the teaching practice, this paper proposes the advice of using mind mapping to promote the core concept construction and expects to provide some valuable reference for the front-line teachers.
