| Language is the carrier of thinking,and mathematical language is a tool to express mathematical ideas.Whether it’s the teacher’s teaching,the student’s cooperation,or the completion of the work,we can not achieve our goal without the tool.Mathematical language is different from the general meaning of language.From the perspective of form,the mathematical language exists in a variety of forms.The mathematical language includes writing language,symbolic language and graphic language.From the concrete content,mathematics language is concise,abstract,logical and precise.It includes the concept of language,the formula language and so on.This requires us to be more precise and accurate when we understand and use the language of mathematics.Different academic levels of students have different mathematical language skills.Students who have poor ability of mathematics language will be more likely to encounter difficulties in the study of mathematics.As the initial stage of mathematics education,the primary school should pay more attention to the cultivation of students’ mathematics language ability.Therefore,it is very important to investigate and develop the mathematics language ability of the pupils.Firstly,this paper is to understand the current situation and the latest progress of the research on mathematical language in China and abroad through the study,combing and summary of the existing literature.Secondly,this paper studies the teachers and students in a primary school in Suzhou City through the use of classroom observations,questionnaires,surveys,text analysis,interviews and other means.Survey results show that most elementary school students are weak in mathematical language and teachers do not attach importance to the cultivation of mathematics language ability of primary school students.Finally,according to the survey results and the author’s teaching practice,we put forward some corresponding teaching strategies to explore the problems exposed.The teaching strategy includes regulating the standard mathematical language and the development ofmathematics language ability,focusing on the inspiration and strengthening the training of mathematical language communication and expression,clarifying definitions and the strengthening of the understanding of the specific meaning of words in mathematical language,understanding the connotation and strengthening the teaching of mathematical symbols,establishing connection and paying attention to translation among writing language,symbolic language and graphic language,valuing reading and enriching the students’ mathematics language system.We hope to improve the students’ ability of mathematics language from these six aspects.Through some research in this paper,we hope that more teachers can inspire the students’ ability of mathematics language and we can carry on the instructions to the students,thus enhance the elementary students’ mathematics language ability. |
