The new geography curriculum standard of middle school puts forward the new idea of adapting to the trend of the times,which is to pay attention to the research of geography problems,to advocate independent learning,cooperative learning and inquiry learning,to carry out the geographical observation,geographical survey,geographical experiment,geographical survey and geographical research and other practical activities.High school geography is a liberal arts curriculum,but geography has the nature of science.It is difficult for the liberal arts students with weak rational thinking to learn geography better than other liberal arts subjects.How to transform the students with Geography learning difficulties is a difficult problem for the longterm study of geography workers.In response to the call of the times,the author tries to realize the transformation of the students with Geography learning difficulties through the attempt of the new measures of geography extracurricular activities.In this paper,literature research,questionnaire survey,observation and experimental methods are used to study the subject.The object of the study is ten geography students taught by the author.The research process is divided into two stages.Each stage has four geographical extracurricular activities,a total of eight geographical extracurricular activities.After each activity,students do the selfevaluation on the experience effect.In the course of the experiment,the author pays close attention to the dynamic of the students with learning difficulties,and evaluates the examination performance of each stage.The transformation effect on the students with geography learning is evaluated on the basic of students’ self-evaluation and teacher’s evaluation.Based on the combination of theory and practice,this paper analyzes and discusses the process and effectiveness of the transformation of the students with Geography learning difficulties through the Geography extracurricular activities.A finding of this research is that geography extracurricular activities strengthen the students’ motivation to learn geography through interest,sense of achievement and other factors.Meanwhile,the scene designed in geography extracurricular activities,the collaboration and exchange platform,and the designed knowledge urge the improvement on students’ ability of acquiring,analyzing,transferring,and using geography information,ability of describing and explaining the phenomena of geography,and ability of demostrating and discussing the problems.The improvement of the ability combining with the knowledge of teaching materials promotes the construction of the geographical significance to improve the geographical performance,so as to achieve the effective transformation of students with learning difficulties.And the transformation effect depends on the design and implementation of the Geography extracurricular activities.Different types of geographical extracurricular activities have different transformation functions.If a single type of geography extracurricular activities is held for students,then the transformation is also single,which will easily causes barrel effect.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out effective combination of different types of activities in order to promote the comprehensive transformation of students with learning difficulties.
