The interaction between teacher and students in classroom teaching includes verbal and nonverbal.Language is the main medium of information transmission in the classroom,so the verbal interaction between teacher and students occupies classroom teaching behaviors.Verbal interaction between teacher and students means an interactive process which happens between teacher and students on basis of language.Research on verbal interaction between teacher and students can reflect the teacher's teaching philosophy in addition to evaluation of the teaching quality.In the research field of interaction between teacher and students,many scholars,at home and abroad,have done a lot of qualitative research and empirical research.Flanders' Interaction Analysis System is most influential.On basis of the current senior geography classroom in China,this research improved Flanders' Interaction Analysis System,applied to study the geography classes from six geography teachers in senior high school.The research focused on the current situation and characteristics of verbal interaction in senior geography classroom and provided experiences for all geography teachers through exploring merits and demerits from six teaching cases.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter based on the teacher-student interaction in geography class of our country put forward research question and research significance and summarizes research actualities about teacher-student interaction at home and abroad.The second chapter introduces theory and method,including verbal interaction between teacher and students in senior geography classroom and Flanders' Interaction Analysis System.The third chapter is core part of the paper.According to improved Flanders' Interaction Analysis System,six teaching cases from geography teachers in senior high school are encoded to study the current situation and characteristics of verbal interaction in the five aspects such as the classroom structure,the classroom control,classroom emotional interaction,degree of innovation in the teacher's questions,curves of teacher-student verbal interaction.In addition,this chapter compares novice teachers to experienced teachers and compares physical geography classes to human geography classes.The fourth chapter further discusses a classic mode of teacher-student interaction:teacher questioned-student replied-teacher feedback.The fifth chapter is the result of research.In this chapter,the characteristics of verbal interaction between teacher and students are summarized and found some problems.And last is to make suggestion and find out the ways to solve the problems.The research has showed that:in the respect of the classroom structure,although teachers have high proportion of words,teacher will give students more chance to speak in class;in the respect of use of multimedia and geographic experiment,teachers tend to the multi-media technology;in the respect of classroom emotional interaction,teachers tend to indirect teaching;in the respect of the question-answer process,question answer mode is still traditional.There are some problems in the verbal interaction in classroom such as too much teachers' words,students lacking questioning spirit,traditional question-answer mode and so on.At last,the main findings of this research are concluded and suggestions are given.
