Vocabulary learning is not only an important part of learning English, but also the foundation and key of English. English sentences are always based on vocabulary, which are the assumptions of language input and output. Meanwhile, the vocabulary built a bridge for communication. Just as the famous British linguistics master Wilkins(1972)said: “we can’t transmit the limited information without grammar, in the same sense, we can’t convey what we think without vocabulary [1]." In this way, the importance of vocabulary in language learning is extremely obvious.Vocabulary learning is an important stage in Junior High school, multimedia can be an assistent for junior students to learn vocabulary, which is also targeted. In addition, the intuition can help students understand and improve their interests of learning. Compared with the past, for vocabulary teaching, the application of media in vocabulary teaching has become a trend. It is no longer the situiation that teachers teach hard and students learn hard. However, beacause of educational mode of oriented examination, the higher grades are the king for middle school teachers and of couse, they pay much attention on the result of the exam. Therefore, there are still some obstacles in the teaching process of the application of multimedia, such as the time of multimedia teaching, the improper teaching method, the formalization in the process, and so on. For students, the traditional vocabulary teaching methods can not meet their expectations of vocabulary learning,students are eager to get new teaching methods in class. So what should our teachers do in vocabulary teaching? How should we combine multimedia with vocabulary teaching?These questions have always become the focus that teachers and professors explore,which hves also been the focus of foreign language teachers.About the researches on the multimedia-application in teaching vocabulary, the most of them have been discussed in College English vocabulary. For the junior middle school,English vocabulary teaching is relatively rare, although there are some researches in theoretical aspects, the actual teaching process was ignored. The investigation found thatthere are still some problems in the current junior high school in English vocabulary teaching when using multimedia. The author summed up the real situation about multimedia application in vocabulary teaching, taking the eight grade in Fugu County Secondary School as the object of investigation, which based on English vocabulary teaching theory both at home and aboard. Through this research, the aim is to provide some referent suggestions for the English teachers and educators, hoping to contribute to English vocabulary teaching model and to solve the problems of application of multimedia in English vocabulary teaching in junior middle school.This thesis totally consists of six parts. The first part mainly introduces the background, the meaning and the purpose and also expounds the necessity of applying multimedia research about English vocabulary teaching in junior middle school. The second part is the literaturary views which mainly introduces the recent researches on the present situation in applicated multimedia at home and abroad in junior middle school English Vocabulary Teaching. The third part is the theory basis, it is mainly based on three kinds of theories: the audio-visual teaching theory, construction theory and the theory of multiple intelligences, which aims to analyze the relationship between the three theories and the English Vocabulary Teaching in junior high school. The fourth part is the research design and implementation, which analylizes the research methods and process in datail. The method gives a detailed inquiry through questionnaire survey, observation in class and interview in the junior high school English vocabulary and multimedia teaching. The fifth part is the research results and analysis. The survey found some problems when analyzing the result one by one. The sixth part is conclusions and suggestions, aiming to find out some solutions to the founded problems. Finally, the author summarizes the contents of this research in the whole and explains the research limitations and direction of development. |
