Negative Effects And Countermeasure Of Social Darwinism On College Students' Thought

In the middle of the 19 th century, British famous scholar Herbert ? Spencer pioneered the theory of social Darwinism. He put forward a general theory of evolution and the social organism theory, emphasizes the evolution process of survival of the fittest is the key to human economic and social progress. Social Darwinism introduces the evolution of human society,with the survival competition,the theory of natural selection explain human phenomenon. However,not only the social Darwinism as Darwinism is simple and obvious applications in the field of human. Biological survival of the fittest is mainly refers to the competition between individual organisms and biological adaptation to the environment. And social Darwinism important battle field involved not only between individuals, are also present in the country or race, between them through struggle to maintain their own interests. As a kind of world view, also as a kind of ideology, the idea and the combination of extreme individualism and materialism thought, has adverse effect on the contemporary college students, measures must be taken to control, and guide students towards a positive direction.This article is divided into four parts to discuss:(1) The first part: the overview of social Darwinism. This part mainly discusses the background, the content and the core idea of social Darwinism, and the basic characteristics of social Darwinism,namely: excessive competition, the extreme individualism and materialism.(2) The second part: this part analyzed social Darwinism Chinese input and its influence on China, Chinese intellectuals on social Darwinism thinking was forced to accept,and explains its positive impact and negative impact of Chinese society, which affect college students' thought.(3) The third part: the negative influence of social Darwinism on contemporary college students, contemporary college students are influenced by social Darwinism, show that excessive competition,the extreme individualism and materialism tendency,must be treated properly.(4) The fourth part:to deal with social Darwinism negative influence strategy, mainly from society,school,family,personal aspects, this paper how to resist the negative effects brought by social Darwinism.Social Darwinism although is no longer fashionable today, but we should face up to social Darwinism, in-depth understanding of its impact on today's society,especially the negative impact on college students, take positive response and avoiding disadvantages.
