English writing teaching plays an important role in English Teaching in junior high school. Effective writing teaching can not only develop students’ writing skills, but also help them consolidate their English knowledge, and cultivate their capabilities of autonomous information processing and language competence. In addition, the New Standards of English writing in junior high school demand more on English writing. They pay more attention to students? active learning attitude and language comprehensive ability of the practical use, they focus on developing students? ability of analyzing and solving problems in English. However, English writing teaching is weak in junior high school. Teachers are encountered with a lot of problems while teaching, students also have difficulty in the process of learning. English Writing Teaching is not very optimistic, teachers seem mechanical in English writing teaching, while students are passive in writing. These problems urgently need to be solved.The above problems remain because teachers still use the traditional teaching methods in English writing teaching. Teachers are in the main position in class while students passively accept information. Teachers ignore the subjectivity and cognitive factors of students in writing and they can not develop students? ability of analyzing and solving problems well.This action research is designed to verify the validity and feasibility of project-based approach in English writing teaching in junior high school. This study attempts to answer the following two questions:1. Can project-based teaching approach cultivate students? interest in English writing in junior high school?2. Can project-based teaching approach improve junior high school students’ English writing ability?The author takes the students of Class 9 and Class 10 Grade Seven in Guangzhou Nansha Huangge Middle School as the research subject. The study lasts for one semester. The author hands out questionnaires for the research subject before and after the research, and makes the comparison of the data. The author interviews the English teachers of Grade Seven on English writing teaching and summarizes the problems of writing teaching. The author invites teachers to attend the class in order to get some suggestions from them, and makes pre-test and post-test, compares the data and summarizes the effect of the usage of project-based teaching approach used in English writing teaching.After analyzing the experimental data, the author finds that project-based teaching approach applied in writing teaching can improve students’ writing participation, initiative writing interest, writing strategy and ability.The author hopes that project-based teaching approach can be used in English writing teaching in a wider range, and hopes it can improve students’ English writing.
