In recent years, the flipped classroom teaching model as an emerging new teaching model has soon spread all over the world. Compared with the conventional lecture-based teaching model, the flipped classroom teaching model makes a lot of changes in the roles of teachers and students, the class arrangement and so on. Many educators are interested in this new model and many of them have already tried to put it into practice. However, few of the researches are made in secondary vocational schools.The flipped classroom teaching model is put into use in a secondary vocational school class in this thesis under the instruction of mastery learning theory,constructivist theory and ZPD in pursuit of a more effective and student-centered class. To testify whether it’s workable and its effects on students’ English application competence, an action research will all be adopted. The research questions are as follows: 1) Can the application of the flipped classroom teaching model in secondary vocational school be workable and increase students’ learning interests? 2)Can the application of the flipped classroom teaching model help students improve their English application competence ? The action research includes three rounds of action.Each round is composed of four steps. They are plan, action, observation and reflection.After the data analysis, it is indicated that the flipped classroom teaching model is workable and can increase students’ learning interests and lower their learning anxiety. Besides, it can help students improve their English application competence compared with the conventional lecture-based teaching model.There are some limitations for the research. For example, the participants of the research are limited and the duration of the research is not long enough to pursue a more truthful result.Some suggestions are provided in the end of the thesis, in hope of attracting more teachers or educators to involve in the research of the flipped classroom teachingmodel. It is believed that the application of the new model will benefit for the teaching and learning in the long run.
