People's ideas and ideology gradually form and mature during the Primary and Secondary stage. Environmental education for primary and secondary students helps them master the basic knowledge of the environment and some simple environmental problem-solving skills regarding the formation of the correct concept of the environment. It is the need of reality and it needs a long run. Since 2001, the eighth basic education curriculum reform officially put the environmental education into the school curriculum which emphasizes the students' environmental awareness as one of the goals of basic education curriculum reform.The present thesis, based on the theoretical study of the environment and environmental education combined with the teaching practice in junior high school geography curriculum, did some research in the content of the new junior high school geography textbooks of environmental education. By understanding the development of domestic and international environmental education, environmental education situation and the connotation of geography and environmental education, it helps to determines the significance and content of this paper: through the interpretation of “compulsory geography curriculum standards(2011 edition)”, using the main textbooks thematic analysis, it did statistical analysis on the content, objectives and presentation of the junior middle school geography textbooks of new environmental education, and summarized the characteristics of the content of environmental education, made a few suggestions for the characteristics of the content. This thesis consists of five parts:The first part is the introduction. Based on the literature review, it clarified the development of environmental education, understood both the domestic and abroad studies on environmental education, so as to clarify the significance and content of this paper.The second part is the basic theory of environmental education. By studying the environmental education, it summarized the concept of the environment, the concept of environmental education, summed up the purpose, principles and method of Primary and Secondary Environmental Education, and analyzed the environmental educational function of Geography curriculum.The third part analyzed in detail the environmental education content in junior high school geography textbooks: First, it clearly stated the curriculum standards of environmental education content in the “Introduction” and “course objectives” of the “compulsory geography curriculum standards(2011 edition)”; Secondly, using environmental education curriculum standards and guidelines as the basis, it did statistical analysis for environmental education's content, objectives and presentation of the new geography textbooks PEP, and finally provided two case study based on the actual teaching of environmental education.The fourth part is the characteristics and recommendations for the environmental education content of the junior high school geography textbook. According to statistical analysis of the previous chapter of the textbook of environmental education content, it summarized the characteristics of the environmental education content in the new junior high school geography textbook, and provided some suggestions for the geography teachers based on those characteristics.The last is the conclusion: In the quality of education today, compulsory education stage of the comprehensive penetration of the environmental education, environmental education can become a good carrier. This is not only the need of the new curriculum reform, but also the need to improve the environmental awareness of the whole people, it is the need to solve the increasingly prominent environmental problems. Therefore, geography teachers should make full use of the material in the teaching process to play the function of environmental education.
