As an basic tool for teaching and learning, textbook was one of focuses on the study of education. In the new reform of curriculum, content rendering of textbook was always an important direction. Picture system, which belongs to be one of the three textbook’s surface system, is an important part of geography textbooks.Study picture system helps to improve not only the quality of geography textbooks and curriculum standards, but also the effect of class. Based on textbook’s surface system theory, communication science and three-dimensional targets system, this thesis studys "Atmosphere on Earth" as a case, which is one chapter from the geography textbooks for freshmen in high school, pressed by PEP. It got its consequences as follows:research overview of textbook’s pictures; the status quo of textbook’s pictures;the method to integrate and develop textbook’s pictures; practical cases of textbook’s pictures.Under the guidance of image communication science, this paper establishes the parallel-dual classification standard according to the nature of images and the usage of researchers.This thesis argues that, pictures in "Atmosphere on Earth", have many advantages and are quite popular in current users, while there still exists some shortage as well.Through a series of interviews with some teachers and students from high school in Jiangsu Province, this paper views that text’s pictures are important in teaching and learning, but they are not easy to be used at the same time.According to the curriculum standards and the three-dimensional target system, this thesis establish a procedure.First, we should definites the curriculum goal, then decomposes the knowledge points of education and teaching, and then finds the right image based on contents, finally, we can forms the image-driven teaching with the combination of other surface systems in textbook.There is an great important meaning and value in researchs on integration and development of image system. However, this paper are not in depth. Mining the potential of textbook’s image, and establishing a perfect teaching mode of image, will always be the key areas for coming studys.
