The 21 st century is the era of rapid development of science and technology. Knowledge is rapidly updated daily, and the limitations of school education are increasingly remarkable.School education should change the concept of education. We will not only teach students knowledge, but also how to learn. Improving students’ learning ability is related to the long-term progress of students and the development of the whole society. Textbooks are the main tool of learning, also undoubtedly an important factor in students’ learning ability. The transfer "teaching materials" to "learning materials" has become a new trend of world.The methods of this study were literature research method, questionnaire survey method,interview survey method. The purpose is to form a set of theoretical system of compiling learning materials, and on this basis, the author completed the learning materials of "material transport function of cell membrane".This thesis is divided into six parts:The first part is an introduction. It mainly introduces research background, research status at home and abroad, purpose and methods of this study. Also it is an introduction to the overall situation of the whole research.The second part is theoretical study, including defining the concept of learning ability and learning materials and the theoretical basis of designing learning materials, such as constructivist theory, information processing theory, advance organizer theory, cognitive load theory and meta-cognitive theory.The third part is the investigation and analysis of high school biology textbooks under the perspective of learning materials. This part aimed at discovering the present problems and deficiencies for training the students’ learning ability in textbooks, to prepare for the latter part of demonstration.The fourth part is to write the principles and strategies of compiling learning materials. Theauthor put forward the principle of subjectivity, science, enlightenment, and operational strategies of compiling learning materials from the perspective of learning ability to provide some advices for the first-line teachers.The fifth part is an example of learning materials, the author completed a learning materials of "material transport function of cell membrane". On this basis, the author distributed the materials to teachers and students, and summed up the improvements according to the interview survey.The sixth part is a conclusion of this thesis, with stating limitations and prospects of this study.The innovation of this study is that the author pays more attention to operational methods and strategies of compiling learning materials and focuses on seeking natural ties between improvement of learning capacity and design of learning materials via the "learning materials" as a tool or medium. Through this research, we believe that the use of learning materials does have a positive role on improving students’ learning ability.
