The progress of science promotes the way of communication in information technology, and gives birth to multimodal in the process of information transmission and expression. Then many domestic scholars pay attention to multimodal research. At present, the domestic research on multimodal theory most is introducing foreign achievements of researches; it is still in initial stage. Since 1990 s, researchers have applied the theory to the teaching field, there have been many modes of teaching, and the teaching effect is good. So far, there are many multimodal English teaching researches, but most of them are about the study of English teaching in universities, while fewer researches are on the study of English teaching in junior school.The key point of this paper is how to apply the multimodal theory to the teaching of junior middle school English teaching. First of all, the author interviewed the English teachers in junior middle school, so as to understand the current situation of domestic English teaching in junior middle school; Secondly, elaborating the necessity of implementing multimodal English teaching; then regarding multimodal theory as the guiding theory, the author conducted English teaching experiment to witness a multimodal teaching whether would be conducive to enhancing students’ English learning interest and explore whether teaching effect could be improved or not; then summed up the operation strategy of multimodal English teaching in junior middle school; Finally, the author illustrated the multimodal English teaching effect in junior middle school, and made an analysis of its future development.At the present development of information technology, multimodal English teaching is in line with the requirements of the times. English teaching in junior high school should make full use of modern multimedia technology and educational technology, pay attention to broaden the students’ horizons, provide students with a relatively realistic culture and context of situation, and improve students’ interest in learning English. At the same time, teachers can also use physical movement to transfer utterance meaning, so that the students can understand the abstract knowledge. The more and more obvious advantages of multimodal teaching must conform to the trend of the development of modern information technology teaching. The author hopes that this study can provide theoretical guidance for English teaching and learning in junior high school, and also has a certain practical significance of the English teaching in junior middle school.
