Since the reform and opening up, the private higher education of china has made great strides in development. While fully affirming the role of the private colleges and universities, but also realistic to see that private higher education has entered a transition period. It is this reality of private higher education required practice in the transition strength background, enhance their competitive advantage, play a potential competitiveness, sustainable development for the school's development strategy and implementation.In this study, we put 33 private colleges (including the independent institute) in Liaoning province as the research objects. Learn the sustainable development strategy research results and strategic theory of private higher education from domestic and overseas. First of all, we should know the development state of private higher education in Liaoning province. Through analyzing the proportion and external influence factors of private higher education in higher education of Liaoning province to analyze the development prospects of private higher education. Then throng the construction of sustainable development indicator system for sustainable development of private higher education in Liaoning province, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and research and analysis on the final result. To make the data which collected from 33 private colleges normalized with statistical analysis methods. To obtain the weight of each index by AHP, through calculate to get integrated specific scores of private colleges, as well as the level of its index score and do some correlation analysis on it. To arrive at concrete targets for private colleges which have a greater influence for the sustainable development?In the end, through cluster analysis, private colleges and universities in Liaoning Province will be divided into three categories. Combined with the classification we proposed three sustainable development strategies for them, extensive strategy, concentrative strategy and contraction-type strategy. Every strategy has a corresponding specific strategic. This classification is only a reference, not each specific strategy for only one type of private colleges and universities. All colleges and universities can choose proper strategies according to their own reality.
