As the world's superpower, the United States focused on higher education internationalization in the global talent competition strategy earlier, and launched a series of laws and measures to establish a relatively perfect system of the internationalization of higher education. Colleges and universities'faculty is one of the important participation roles in the process of internationalization of higher education. Many scholars at home and abroad had obtained lots of achievements on the research of higher education internationalization in the United States. But in former research, they mainly studied from the perspective of actuality, motivation, government policy, strategic intention, development trend as well as curriculum internationalization of the higher education internationalization in the United States, while they paid less attention to the study of colleges and universities'faculty' Internationalization.By means of literature research and case analysis, this paper firstly reviewed and analyzed lots of literature which is related to colleges and universities'faculty' internationalization, and defined relevant concepts. Then, combined with historical background, the motivation, main practice and several enlightenment of American higher education internationalization, this paper studied the history origin, role analysis and the opportunities and challenges of American colleges and universities' faculty'internationalization. Finally, the paper analyzed the American colleges and universities'faculty'internationalization practice in detail and learned some valuable experience from American colleges and universities'faculty'internationalization through the study of guidelines, practical channels, funding support and system guarantee of Duke University'faculty'internationalization.The research results firstly showed that the U.S. government provided colleges and universities'faculty to internationalization with policies and resources support and guarantee. Secondly, colleges and universities'faculty in American played the important role of advocates and practitioners in the process of higher education internationalization. Thirdly, American colleges and universities'faculty have opportunities in the process of internationalization while they also have to face some challenges. Those factors such as the internationalization strategies formulated by American colleges and universities, the emphasis of school leaders'attitude towards internationalization and organization system will influence the enthusiasm of faculty's internationalization.Studying the current situation of American colleges and universities'faculty' internationalization brings a lot of enlightenment to Chinese colleges and universi-ties'faculty'internationalization. The government should provide colleges and universities'faculty with more powerful laws and resource guarantee, colleges and universities can formulate perfect internationalization strategic plan, and internatio-nalization should be brought into the assessment latitude of appointment and promotion of colleges and universities'faculty. Under the trend of internatio-nalization, colleges and universities'faculty should enrich their knowledge reserve and improve the ability of communication and learning on internationalization, they should balance the input on teaching and scientific research in the process of internationalization.
