Family tradition,originated from the time-honored culture of China,is a collective cognitive thought.It has been becomes a core carrier to derive and inherit family members’ spiritual temperament,ideology,character,faith,moral idea and aesthetic style.Family tradition,originated from the time-honored culture of China,is a collective cognitive thought.It has been handed down from generation to generation and becomes a core carrier to derive and inherit family members’ spiritual temperament,ideology,character,faith,moral idea and aesthetic style.Family tradition,dated from Qin Dynasty,developed in Wei and Jin period,flourished in Tang and Song dynasties,reached the peak in Ming and Qing dynasties and became indifferent in modern China.It possesses the trait of rich ideological and cultural backgrounds with a long-term development.In recent years,it has been mentioned repeatedly,but it is in 2014 that people had realized the importance of family tradition again after the special report of New Year from Grass-Roots Level and What’s Your Family Tradition on CCTV.It is necessary to build up a harmonious society by learning the essence of traditional family style.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is mainly about the study on the basic concept of family tradition and its theories during the development in history.It elaborates four periods of family tradition including origination period,fast development period,prosperity period,indifference period and analyzes the normal methods used in family tradition education.The second part is mainly about the elaboration of family tradition values.Based on the values of moral self-discipline,family culture and social life,this paper formulates its special influence on individual,family and society which is the theoretical basis of family tradition’s inheritance.The third part is mainly about the systematic analysis of positive and negative aspects.This paper elaborates the positive influence on family education,culture spread and family harmony.Besides,this paper also analyzes the problems caused by the old family tradition which is influenced by the limitations of history.The forth part is mainly about learning from family tradition according to the requests of new age.This paper elaborates that we should eliminate the bad influence caused by the negative parts and learn from the positive aspects of family tradition.It also points out its positive effect on the citizen moral construction,the harmonious family construction,the Party conduct construction and the harmonious society construction.What’s more,it suggests that we should contributes to the harmonious society construction.
