The county is a mediation of connecting the nation and the society. As the old saying goes: “whether prefecture county cure, fit all over the world”,which shows that the social stability of the county has vital significance for China's economic and social development. However, the results of previous research in this field are inconsistent with realities, therefore, the present study attempts to explore the social stability problems of the county, taking XW county as an example.Currently, the factors causing social instability of the county are gradually increasing. From the results of case analysis, labor and social security disputes, land expropriation and housing demolition conflicts, serious environmental pollution as well as the frequent occurrences of “Petition peak” and “mass disturbance” are the main manifestations of social instability of the county in the new period.Compare with the social stability problems in other fields, they are characterized by the diversification of subjects, the variety of form and the intersectionality of type in the county. What's more, single governance strategies and rigid management technology are the principal factors influencing the social stability.Meanwhile, the weak social organizations, which didn't play their moderating roles in solving contradictions and conflicts, are not beneficial for social stability.Besides, unbalanced public services violate the basic rights of citizens to some degree, which also affects social stability.Based on the above analysis, the present study suggests that the social stability can only be achieved by classified governance, cultivating social organizations with the power of participatory governance and providing balanced public services.
