| The U.S is the largest developed country and China is the largest developing country in the whole world. Meanwhile the U.S is the world’s biggest economy,followed by China. Hence the relationship between The U.S and China is regarded as one of the most important bilateral relation in the world, and the stability of the relationship between the U.S and China decides whether or not the international relationship can keep stable.Since China’s reform and opening up,the development of Chinese economy is in an ever-increasing rate, which enhances the comprehensive national power. It is undeniable that China will rise peacefully in the world. By contrast, with the spread of the financial crisis in the western world, it exerts an adverse influence upon the American economy,which means the high unemployment rate in the U.S and the economic downturn.Although the U.S is the only superpower in the world, there is no doubt that the gap between China and U.S is covered gradually. Therefore, the U.S now is in a dilemma.There is a debate about how to deal with the China’s rise in American Academics.With the rapid development of globalization, there is an opinion that containment strategy could pose threats upon not only China, but also American, which will influence the American interests. Thus the containment strategy is not considered as the grand strategy. However,in terms of the engagement strategy, some people hold that it is not enough that the U.S should cooperate with China in many fields or U.S should make a compromise in order to expect that China can follow the American leadership. They believe that besides cooperation, the U.S should impose intense pressure on Chinese development in all kinds of areas so that it can contain the development and rise of China.So the engagement with containment strategy is supposed to be main strategy that the U.S should carry out toward China. What’s more, the strategy that the U.S chooses the relationship between The U.S and China decides the future between the U.S and China to a large extent. |
