Jacob Burckhardt points out: in the public life of ancient Greek city-states,competition culture is the greatest feature, which can make ancient Greek quite different from other nations or states. This article mainly lists three typical areas of public life, that is,sports competitions, theatrical performances, and political life to analyze the competition culture in the public life of ancient Greek city-states.In all sports games, only Olympia Games is a purely sporting event and has the greatest impact. Therefore, this paper selects the Olympia Games as a case study.Firstly,it introduces the origin of the Olympia Games, which originates from ancient Greek myths and legends. Then the paper introduces the competition and the process of Olympia Games. From the course of the game, the paper checks the competition culture of the ancient Greek city-states.For theatrical performances,Athens is the most typical of ancient Greek dramas, the paper chooses Athens as the research object and explores the birth of the drama.Similarly, the birth of drama and the myth of ancient Greece are also inseparable. Then it describes in detail the competition culture in theatrical performances, including the competition among poets, actors and teams, and deeper understanding of the culture of ancient Greek city-states.Political life is another concrete manifestation of public life in ancient Greek city-states.The most concentrated manifestation of competition in political life is the speech of political leaders at citizen conference and citizen court. Finally,in the conclusion part, the paper summarizes the competition culture of the ancient Greek city-states,which not only enriches the limitations of general understanding of competition culture, but also helps to understand the democratic features of the ancient Greek city-states politics, thus deepening the understanding of ancient Greek city-states civilization.
