Hymes first raised the concept of “communication skill” in the early 1970 s.Since then,the theory of communication skill has been perfected and developed in different fields,which has become the core of foreign language/second language communication teaching theory,i.e.the ultimate goal of language acquisition is to communicate and acquire communicative competence.One of the necessary ways to accomplish this goal is to learn how to use communication strategies.It is shown in the existing empirical studies that the effective use of communicative strategies can better help students to achieve communicative purposes;To cultivate the communicative ability of international students is a driving force for the whole Chinese learning.Based on this,international students of Faculty of Sinology,Dalian University of Foreign Languages were selected as the research subjects,and the communication strategy classification framework widely used at home and abroad(F?rch & Kasper,1983)was chosen.The way of questionnaires and interviews were applied to find the communication strategies of the international students who used Chinese for communication and to explore whether the communication objects will influence the choice of communication strategies by international students.If so,how influence? Based on this research idea,this article is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1 introduces the research background,the issue,significance and review and summarization of previous research results,and provides a solid theoretical foundation for this research.The research design and implementation in Chapter 2,the data processing and statistical analysis in Chapter 3,and the results and discussion in Chapter 4 are the core parts of this article.This article answers the research questions systematically and puts forward suggestions on the teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Dalian University of Foreign Languages,therefore providing reference value for the study of international students’ Chinese communication strategies in the future.In this study,it is found that the use of communicative strategies in Chinese language communication is not very different from the use of reduction strategies and achievement strategies.The communicative object will influence the choice and use of the communicative strategies of foreign students.In the case of Chinese teachers as communicative objects,the cooperation strategy and target language strategy are high frequency strategies;In case of international students as communication objects,the first language or foreign language strategy,target language strategy and cooperative strategy are high-frequency strategies;In case of other Chinese as communication objects,international students prefer to use their mother tongue or foreign language strategies,cooperative strategies and non-verbal strategies.
