The E-C EPC Agreement Translation Report

In cross-border project,the understanding of the contract between the two parties is crucial.In order to ensure the smooth progress of the project,the contract understanding and translation should be given high priority.However,the majority of research in the field of contract translation involves commercial contracts,economic and trade contracts,and few EPC(Engineering,Procurement,Construction)contracts.But in most multinational projects today,as a special form of project contracting,EPC model has gradually been widely used because of its unique advantages.In an attempt to fill the gap in the translation of EPC contract and also provide some lessons for future scholars in this field,the writer decides to analyze the translation of EPC contract.This report takes EPC contract for 102 MW wind power project as a case study.Under the guidance of skopos theory,the writer first analyzes the entire translation process,and then summarizes the translation principles of this EPC contract.The translation process includes task description,translation preparation and case analysis.The case analysis part mainly discusses the EPC contract translation from three levels: lexical,syntactical and textual levels.The report finds that skopos theory is suitable for guiding the translation of EPC contract in view of its uniqueness.In addition,by drawing lessons from previous studies,the writer sums up three translation principles(preciseness,consistency,and faithfulness)that should be followed in the process of EPC contract translation.
