The practice report is based on the translation of the fourth chapter of The Three Percent Problem: Rants and Responses on Publishing,Translation, and The Future of Reading by Chad Post. This chapter mainly involves the status quo of American nonprofit bookstores and BookExpo America, and points out the fact that the preference and tendency of American book publishing is presenting a fast-food style and vulgar tendency. The great translation works only account for 3% of the market share. This book aims to appeal to the publishing industry, translators and readers to pay more attention to the “3% dilemma” and jointly prosper the American book culture. It is hoped that the translated version of this book will give reference to the Chinese publishing industry, translators and readers so as to maintain the freshness and vitality of Chinese book culture. This report consists of four parts. The first part gives a brief to the translation project, which introduces the content of the project and the significance of the project, etc. The second part is the translation process description.Especially, based on careful analysis and classification of the problems during translation, proper theory guidance is chosen. The third part is the case study. In view of the mistakes in the translation, the discourse cohesion theory is adopted to analyze and interpret the role of these cohesive devices in English discourse, from the three aspects of reference, substitution and hyponymy,so as to revise the mistakes and improve the quality of translated text. The fourth part is the translation practice summary. It's mainly about the author's understanding of cohesion theory and the self-reflection of this translation practice.
