Gongkar Choide Monastery was founded in 1464 by Gongkar Dorjedenpa Kunga Namgyel(Gong-dkar rDo-rje-gdan-pa Kun-dga' rNam-rgyal),belongs to the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism.Khyentse Chenmo Genyen Namgyal(mKhyen-brtse Chen-mo dGe-bsnyen rNam-rgyal),the creator of Khyentse School,had drawn the mural on the wall of Gongkar Choide Monastery Hevajra Hall with his creation team.He had boldly broken the traditional composition method of Tibetan mural,on the basis of traditional painting standard of Tibetan murals,combined with his own long-term artistic creation experience.By using similar or identical geometric motifs creatively and frequently,such as circles,trapezoids,using artistic language and techniques properly,and arranging the basic composition of the mural according to local conditions,his murals produce a steady,thick,confident rhythmic beauty.The Hevajra Hall mural is not only rich in composition,but also skilled in color matching with contrasting colors and adjacent colors,forming a colorful artistic effect.The mural is the early outstanding representative work of Khyentse School,is one of the representative works of Tibetan art in the late15 th century,is a symbol of the maturity of Tibetan local painting art,and occupies an important position in the history of Tibetan art.
