| Since modern times,Western countries have long been carrying out unfavorable propaganda against China.Only by taking a proactive approach in international communication and build a positive image of itself, can China obtain support and realize development in the international community.Nowadays,Chinese personages in all fields are frequently taking part in international exchanges and speaking in public, which becomes an important window for people from around the world to learn about China. In these occasions, interpretation is an important link,so it is necessary to raise effect consciousness in interpreting international public speaking. However, effects are still a weak link in China’s interpretation for international communication, and a reason is the lack of an audience-oriented approach of rhetoric. With this background, this paper aims to explore ways to enhance the communication effects of public speaking in international occasions.First, through empirical study, the author studies on two groups of public speaking by comparing their audience interview and questionnaire results, and finds group B having better communication effects than group A.Second, based on theories of audience and rhetoric, the paper studies the language feature of group B through the three emotional principles of rhetoric: plainness, novelty and concreteness, and thus putting forward relevant strategies for enhancing communication effects. With these, the study reaches to the conclusion that, communication effects of public speaking interpretation can be enhanced with the three emotional principles of rhetoric as guidance.Last, the paper points out the limitations of the study. One,interpretation affects communication effects only within a limited scope, and there are many other factors;two, this paper does not consider long-term and indirect communication effects;three,in practice,it may be a challenge to effectively apply these strategies in limited time for thinking. These limitations can be directions for future study. |
