“Food is the paramount necessity to people in the world”.It is a fast and effective way to transmit Hunan food culture or even Hunan culture through the translation of Hunan food. The research extracts the section of “Food Customs” from Hunan Folk Customs and Cultures as the source text in the translation practice, which has recorded nearly one hundred kinds of Hunan food. Some of them are deep in Hunan local colors, and some with profound Hunan food cultural connotations. So undoubtedly,C-E translation of those Hunan food names becomes the brightest and the most difficult part in the practice, and thus turns to be the research target of the thesis. After several times of revision of the translated text, three problems in C-E translation of Hunan food names are sorted out from language and culture perspectives: 1)vacancy of equivalence of Hunan food cultural words;2)obscure expression of culinary terms;3)loss of Hunan cultural connotations. Then,in terms of the above three problems, three translation strategies are put forward respectively: 1)conservation of local food cultural words;2)specialization or substitution of culinary terms;3)compensation for cultural connotations in local food. But it's worth attention that these translation strategies are not always employed singly;sometimes it is inevitable to use them comprehensively and flexibly in different source texts. On the whole, the thesis concludes that in the C-E translation of Hunan food names, the translator should consider not only the adequate reflection of Hunan food culture but also the acceptability and readability of the translation(close to the naming characteristics of western food). The author,in one hand, hopes to inspire the C-E translation of local food names, and in the other hand, wishes to facilitate the publicity of Hunan culture as well as “The Belt and Road” in China.
