The excerpted texts in this translation project report,Dollar Diplomacy According to Dollar Diplomats:American Development and World development, are from Martin J.Sklar’s monograph The United States as a Developing Country:Studies in U.S.History in the Progressive Era and the 1920s,Chapter Ⅲ.The excerpted texts try to analyze economically the intention, content and effect of Dollar Diplomacy from the perspective of the practitioner of "Dollar diplomacy" in the United States. This is different from the evaluation of Dollar Diplomacy by Chinese historians, and translating it into Chinese and introducing it to China, are of great significance of reference and communication to domestic historical research. In the process of translation, the biggest difficulty the translator encountered is translating of some difficult words and complex sentences. There are some words that the translator has never encountered, and some other words are superficially familiar, but it is very difficult to translate them into Chinese. Some sentences are complicated and consist of many words. The relation between clause and main clause is very abstruse. In order to translate these words, the translator always consults the dictionaries diligently and thinks them over and over.As to complex sentences,in addition to some common translation techniques, such as word class conversion and sentence sequence adjustment are employed, the solution is mainly to learn from Nada’s theory of dynamic equivalence.Nada’s analysis of core sentences,by way of T-G model, enlightened the translator.Through the analysis of this method of finding out the core sentence, many complicated and complex sentences are successfully translated. As to the experience of the translator required from this translation practice, the most significant ones are:more translation practice, constant modification, active thinking, continuous perfecting, and making full use of various dictionaries and network tools,to constantly improve the capability of the translator.
