Report On The Translation Of Bob Dylan All The Songs:the Story Behind Every Track

This report is based on French to Chinese translating work of the book Bob Dylan All The Songs:The Story Behind Every Track.The book is written by Philippe Margotin and Jean Michel Guesdon,published in 2015,contains details and analysis of thirty-six albums and eleven bootlegs released by Bob Dylan before 2015,demonstrated the background and inspiration of every album,process of production and inferable messages of each song.The information and data mentioned in this book provide significant clues and evidences to researchers and fans of Bob Dylan.The translation of the book has been done by seven translators.Being involved and devoted into the project,my skills and tactics of translating in multiple aspects has been practiced.In this report,the valuable experience gained from solving problems has been indicated,as well as the lessons learnt from passing through difficulties,with the summary of the entire translation project.The report contains four parts.The first part is the description of this translating project,including the context and content of the book.The second part stated specific steps,such as the preparation and the operation of the project.In the third part,analysis of major problem in the translation project has been discussed in detail.The book is originally in English,therefore translating from French to Chinese indicated indirect translation,which means translating the source from a third language to the target language rather than its original language.The priority is to decide which source to choose when divergence appears between the original content and translated text of the third language.The last part of the report is the conclusion and the retrospect of the project,the rethink of the experience,the feedbacks and solving of the shortcomings,and the improvement of translating skills and strategies.
