A Study Of The Translation Of The Words In Dylan Thomas’ Poems | | Posted on:2020-05-26 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Z Chen | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2405330596467393 | Subject:Linguistics and Applied Linguistics | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | This thesis aims to study the translation of Dylan Thomas’ poetry from the perspective of words,which has been divided into three parts,according to the correspondent principles and elements.Chapter One focuses on the Water-tightness of the words in Dylan’s poems.The Water-tightness of the words reflects in two aspects.First,it is the force relationship between words in content.By analyzing the content,the translators should find and restore this kind of relationship between words.The other one is the tight connection between words in form.Adjustment to the punctuation and structure should be based on the fluency of the original poems.Otherwise,the force relationship between words will be changed.Chapter Two focuses on the Hybridity of the words in Dylan’s poems.The Hybridity of the words reflects in two aspects.First,it is the overloading of meanings inside the words.Translators should be fully aware of this and try to mix the overloaded meanings,making sure that they are connected and related to each other.The other one is the juxtaposition of the words in different fields.Translators should keep the fields and fuse the meanings of the words.The translation can be interpretative or creative.Chapter Three focuses on the Sensualness of the words in Dylan’s poems.By analyzing the poems,we realize that the words in Dylan’s poems are rough and original.According to the original text,the intuitive image meaning of the words should be kept in the translation.The other kind of Sensualness of the words is Thingness.The words are independent,existing in its own world rather than pointing to the objective world.The meaning of word should be translated in content.And if necessary,the italic font style can be used in order to distinguish the words which have the quality of Thingness from others. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Dylan Thomas, Words, Translation, Water-tightness, Hybridity, Sensualness | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
