A Comparative Study Of The Cultural Connotations Of The Chinese And Arabic Female Idioms

Idiomatic expressions embody people’s past lessons and experiences,from which we can tell a nation’s culture and tradition.It is a meaningful work to compare the idiomatic expressions in Arabic and in Chinese,since huge differences exist in all aspects of historical cultures,religions,natural environment and traditions.In our daily cross-cultural communications,Chinese still know very little about Arabic women.Therefore,in order to enhance the mutual understanding between Chinese and Arabic people,this thesis compares the idiomatic expressions related to women in Chinese and Arabic,and discusses the reasons of the differences.This thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter describes the purpose of the research.The second chapter introduces the research method,including how to define the " idioms " in Arabic and in Chinese,how to select the dictionaries of idioms.The third chapter compares and discusses the role of the mother,wife,and daughter as in Arabic and Chinese idioms.The fourth chapter compares the different characteristics of females in Arabic and Chinese idioms.The fifth chapter discusses the reason of those differences.
