With the continuous development of Chinese teaching,the quantity and difficulty of the idioms in the textbooks are increasing,so we must pay more attention to the idioms.Idioms,which embodies the history and culture of Chinese Nation,have always been one of the important methods for foreign students to learn Chinese culture and Chinese history.They are also one of the interest points for overseas students to learn Chinese,but they are also difficult points for those overseas students.An accurate understanding of the meaning of idioms is the basis of correct application of idioms.And the first step to contact the idiom for students is the English annotations in textbook,therefore,the English annotations will directly or indirectly affect the learning and using effect of students.Most of Chinese textbooks have foreign language translation,the author examines the authoritative textbook of Experiencing Chinese,found the English annotations still exist many problems.Therefore,this paper has conducted the research to the comprehensive textbooks of Experiencing Chinese,then found out and analyzed the problems of the annotations.This paper includes six parts.First of all,this paper made a review of previous studies,including the annotation of idioms,the English translation of idioms,and the teaching of idioms in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Chapter three made statistics on the English annotation of idioms in Experiencing Chinese,the English annotation problem which is divided into five categories,namely,the interpretation is not accurate,the annotation and the usage of idioms is not equal,lack of the original meaning,lack of the metaphorical meaning,lack of the additional colors and lack of the cultural meaning.And then analyzed various reasons for the problems.Chapter four,a questionnaire survey of foreign students in Anhui University is conducted,in order to understand the misleading of some English Annotations in the current textbooks on the idioms of foreign students.Chapter five,based on the analysis of the questionnaire results of overseas students and the statistical analysis of idioms and English Annotations in Experiencing Chinese,we put forward some feasible suggestions from two aspects:textbook compilation and teacher teaching.Finally,it summarized the content of the full text and pointed out the shortcomings of this paper.
