Everything I Never Told You has been widely acclaimed since its publication.Celeste Ng describes the tragedy of a mixed-race family in the 1970 s with delicate brushstrokes and superb writing skills.The multiple themes of female independence,ethnic identity,and multicultural conflict contained in the work give the novel more possibilities to study from various perspectives.This thesis aims to digging the relationship between the characters and the trauma behind the story,analyzing Lidia's suicide and anxiety of other major characters caused by the pain.Secondly,on the basis of combining with the real predicament,the causes of the traumatic experience will be discussed from the aspects of personal consciousness,social problem,cultural dilemma and historical background.And the third part focuses on the plot setting and the narrative structure set by the author to strengthen the traumatic experience of her novel,analyzing the textual aesthetics value brought by unique writing skills which promotes the plot development and deepens the tragic beauty of characters.
