Since the rise of foreign game-adapted movies in the 1990s,more than 40 works have been released in 25 years.Many of them have excellent performances at the box office and word of mouth,and many excellent films have also achieved high box office sales in the Chinese movie market.However,the development of the same type of film in China has a serious lag,the type of the film is single,and the performance of the box office is not good.So far there is no good work published.Judging from the proportion of foreign game adaptation films in the Chinese market,this type of film currently has a huge potential market space in China.For game-adapted movies,the type of movie that is still in development,exploring and studying the successful experience of foreign game-adapted movies at the adaptation strategy level will help improve the film adaptation theory and promote the further development of domestic and overseas game-adapted films.This article systematically reviews the brief history of the development of game-adapted films at home and abroad,and selects three foreign game adaptation movie classic cases from the three mainstream game categories:online games,mobile games and stand-alone games,and analyzes their adaptation strategies based on different types of games.The successful experience elaborated the similarities and differences between movies and games on the media level,and the diverse demands of games and film makers for making game adaptation movies,which in turn led to difficulties in the adaptation of game adaptation films and problems to be solved.Finally,with the current situation of the game industry and the film industry,the feasibility suggestions for adapting movies at home and abroad are put forward.
