This thesis is a translation project report.The translation material is the third and fourth chapters of Education:Believe in the Possibility of Human-being,the eighth book of the Challenge of Mahayana Buddhism series published by the Institute of Oriental Philosophy.Education:Believe in the Possibility of Human-being is a paper collection written by six education-related researchers.Chapter three and Chapter four are both academic papers.Chapter three demonstrates environment education,a new subject relevant to biology and ecosystem,from the perspective of Buddhism.Chapter four reviews the formulation process of the idea that“family is the undertaker of education " in modern Europe and expects the idea can be changed in contemporary times.Compared to literary works,Chapter three and Chapter four are highly professional,which leads to higher requirements in language accuracy and discourse coherence.In the process of translation,the author comes to learn Contextualism,which provides considerable insight for the author.This report is under the guidance of Hu Zhuang ' s Contextualism.Through examples,the author analyzes translation skills adopted and translation effects achieved in the translation from the aspects of vocabulary and sentence.In the process of translation and analysis by applying contextualism,the author discusses and solves the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation of Education:Believe in the Possibility of Human-being(Chapter three and Chapter four),and concludes the applicability of Contextualism.This report consists of the following three parts:Chapter one briefly introduces the origin and development of Contextualism,as well as the function and classification of Contextualism.Context has restriction and explaination functions.Hu Zhuanglin divided context into linguistic context,situational context and cultural context and put forward that discourse cohesion and coherence can be achieved by contextual analysis.Chapter two discusses the textual content and language features of Education:Believe in the Possibility of Human-being(Chapter three and Chapter four).On that basis,the author elaborates the relevance between contextualism and the translation praction by using the translation examples in Education:Believe in the Possibility of Human-being(Chapter three and Chapter four).It is proved that linguistic and cultural context are of profound guiding significance to this translation practice,however situational context,which is applicable to the translation of fictions and TV series,is not applicable to this text.Chapter three analyzes the application of translation skills through specific translation examples from the apsects of vocabulary and sentence under the guidance of linguistic and cultural context.In vocabulary translation,the author analyzes the application of Contextualism from terminology,subtitle,demonstrative pronounce.When dealing with terminologies relevant to Buddlism and education,translators should pay close attention to the cultural context of both source language and target language.As these terminologies are not frequently used in our daily life,annotation can be adopted to make readers understand the translation better.As for the translation of subtitle and demonstrative pronounce,much attention should be attached to linguistic context.Meanwhile,conversion and inversion can be adopted to achieve better translation effects.In sentence translation,the author discusses the application of translation skills under the guindance of Contextualism from the aspects of long sentence and passive sentence.When translating long sentence and passive sentence,translators should not strictly conform with the original sentence structure,instead,addition,omittion,division shoud be adopted to make the translated text conform with the linguistic and cultural context of the source text.Through this translation praction,the author has formed a deeper understanding of Contextualism,solved the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation,and improved the accurancy of the translation.It is expected that this translation project report can provide reference for the translation of similar text type.
