Chu Hsi Saint View Study

To be saint is scholars' dream in the past China dynasties but their theory to be saint were difference,so different historical period's scholars will present different sage view.From the meaning of development of "st",we know that in the ancients' mind,saints are intelligent and wise,they have a noble virtues or mental state and concentrate cordial pursuit of dream.For Confucian,saint was the perfect ideal for the cultivation of personality,as a Confucian sage,Confucius always kept insatiable in learning and tireless in teaching attitude towards kind-heartedness and think that saint should widely taught the kind-heartedness to people.Confucius adhered to neutral way and always able to stand in between 'Ambitious' and 'Principle'.Mencius was the first proposed the sage view theory of 'Human are kind by nature' and from Yao's and Shun's,the ancient sages,natural character to look for human's natural goodness and came up with everyone could be Yao&Shun's dream.Apart from the sage view of Confucius and Mencius,the "Five Elements Article" in warring states bamboo slips and silks,the idea of was divided into two parts,which was the growth of knowledge and action combination sprout idea.During Song and Ming dynasties,the neo-Confucian pay more attention to the formation of sage spirit.Zhhou Dun Yi in "Zhou's Almanac" said:"ordinary people want to learn from virtuous,the virtuous want to learn from saints,saints want to learn from the real world",this was Song and Ming dynasties' neo-Confucian whole life dream,Confucian scholars were demanding of themselves,they wished to become virtuous and then put in more effort to become sage.There was difference with Mencius Saint's theory.Chu Hsi adhered to the theory sage is difficult to achieve but also not totally impossible to be.He proposed the standards and methods to become saint.As a saint,must have the natural laws and extinguish the human desires,remove personal desires by cultivation so as to recover goodness to achieve natural stage;saints must be neutral and able to decide their own position properly.Saint should be able to judge right or wrong,good and evil impartially,having mild character and would not bias to any kind of mood;as a saint,should able to promote "natural goodness theory" via education and politics and give the people of the world a harmonious life.As for the methods become saint,Chu Hsi emphasised a scholar wants to be sage,first must have the determination to become Yao and Shun.While cultivate own character must still insatiable in learning,know to judge right or wrong impartially,learn how to self discipline and how to control own desires so as to achieve the target of become sage.Unlike traditional saint view,Chu Hsi saint's view although is hard to be but can be achieve step by step,stage by stage.From the meaning of ideological history.Chu Hsi saint view inherits from Confucius but also combined the ideas of Song dynasty neo-Confucianism characteristic,mean while unity of self-restraint method at the same time through his self moral cultivation skills and education methods,he inherited predecessors' theory and developed bit by bit.extended to everyone,even between family and country,Chu Hsi also intentionally differentiate between the way of his saints and the Buddhist to shows his theory of saints is a kind of real life learning.
