Ecological Marxism is the important branch of Contemporary Western Marxism,it firstly appeared in the 1960 s in the green movement which is of the global influence,It tries to use and refer to Marx's ideas and methods to deeply analyze the causes of ecological crisis,to explore the practical ways and specific strategies to eliminate the crisis, its typical representative includes Jonathan Hughes. In the 1990 s,in the face of contemporary ecological crisis and challenges from Environmentalism to Marxism,Hughes based on Marxist classics and combined Marxist analysis methods, based on the interaction relationship between human and nature, surrounding the dependence on nature, focusing on the analysis of interpretation of the natural limitations and its relativity, views of ecological development of productivity and human needs.Hughes' theories of Ecological Marxism were introduced into our country relatively late, the related research is still in its preliminary study stage, and also we do not get the systematic research and complete grasp. The study of Hughes' theories of Ecological Marxism aims to correctly understand and analyzes the theories,in order to have the overall grasp of Hughes' basic thoughts of Ecological Marxism and the unique values of it.Hughes' thoughts are not out of thin air,and its formation has unique social backgrounds. And at the same time,he also pointed out that ecology must be based on Marxism.Hughes describes his comprehensions of ‘ecological problems',by criticizing the two extreme positions on the definition of ‘ecological problems',namely the wide definition and the narrow one,to show his understanding of the concept of ‘nature' and ‘man'.Hughes evaluates ecological problems from the perspective of the generalized anthropocentrism. The relationships between man and nature are studied in detail,Hughes points out that they are two-way interactive relationships, they are dependent and opposite to each other.Hughes regards the development of productive forces and the satisfaction of human needs as an important criterion to judge social progress,he focuses on the analysis of the relationship between the development of productive forces and ecological problems, human needs and other issues, reveals that in the capitalist society, capitalist use of technology and productivity of capitalism development are the root causes of ecological problems.Objectively speaking,Hughes' s views of ecological Marxism are unique, and they are of strong critical reality function, although Hughes' thoughts and theories are limited by the time background,in the aspect of his theories and practice, showing a certain idealism, but it still contains the truth and commendable correct ideas,it's worth us from the aspects of theories and practice to carry out in-depth study and learning,as Hughes' thoughts play a guidance role in the construction of socialistic ecological civilization.
