Simulated Consecutive Interpretation Report On 2016 Obama's States Of The Union Address

Since the exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries have become increasingly close,the demand for various types of interpreters has been greatly improved,including consecutive interpreters.Different from simultaneous interpretation,the basic feature of consecutive interpretation is that the interpreter does not speak with the spokesman at the same time,and they may speak alternately.Although simultaneous interpretation plays a major role in the large international conferences,consecutive interpretation is still the main way of interpreting press conferences,foreign affairs meetings,and various liaison interpretations.Since the spring of 2016,MTI Education Center has organized plenty of simulated consecutive interpreting practices of international conferences.This report is a reflection and summary on a simulated English-Chinese consecutive interpreting practice of Obama's State of the Union Address from the perspective of Interpretive Theory.MTI Education Center was deputed to organized time and place of the practice and audio-recorded the whole process,then students who took part in the practice transferred the audio file into text.Based on the theory of sense,this paper analyzes and deals with the problems which appeared in the process of simulated consecutive interpreting by using several translation strategies such as omission,combined theory and so on.This report begins with a general description of the background of the interpretation task,and then gives a detailed description of the process of interpretation,including preparations before interpreting,process of interpretation and postinterpretation issues.Secondly,the report will be combined with the application of the theory of sense,summarizing the problems appeared in the process of consecutive interpreting and solutions.Finally the report summaries this consecutive interpreting and come to the conclusion.I hope that this analysis of the interpreting task will provide some references and inspirations to other student interpreters.
