C-E Social Work Speech Simultaneous Interpreting Strategies From The Perspective Of Functionalist Skopos

This thesis takes the Functionalist Skopos as its theoretical framework.Based on three principles of Functionalist Skopos and the mock simultaneous interpretation of The Essence of Social Work and the Management of Social Work Institutions,a speech made by a Hong Kong senior social worker Wu Shuili,the thesis analyzes the difficulties of this interpreting task and proposes some corresponding strategies.In this speech,Mr.Wu mainly discusses the four main parts of the essentials of social work,the localization of social work and the four elements of how to manage social service agencies successfully.To tackle the difficulties in this interpreting task,including abundant professional knowledge,colloquial expressions and special style,this thesis proposes some interpreting strategies,such as omission,addition,literal translation,free translation,conversion and integration and comprehensive translation methods.Social work has become very important to social management innovation since the Sixth Plenary Session of the 16 th CPC Central Committee.With the development of our society,social work will have a bright future.Therefore,interpreting the speeches about social work can help draw public attention so as to further strengthen the mutual communication between different countries and promote the development of social work.
