In recent years,Massive Open Online Course(MOOC)gets the rapid development in China and it also provides a new mode of learning foreign language.Since the 1970 s,learning strategy has been a hot research topic at home and abroad and it is of great importance for learning the foreign language.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the correlation between learning strategies and English performance in the MOOC environment.The thesis regards 288 college students as the research subjects who all have attended the course “Crafting an Effective Writer: Tools and Trade” in the MOOC College.The thesis uses the SPSS15.0 to analyze the data of questionnaires and interviews and investigates and researches the situation of learning strategies and the differences on the use of learning strategies between the high and low scores group,aiming at exploring the correlation between learning strategies and English performance.Based on the data analysis,the results of the present study are drawn out.Firstly,the overall level of the use of English learning strategies is not high.The order of the frequencies of learning strategies used by college students from high to low is cognitive strategies,affective strategies,metacognitive strategies and social strategies.Secondly,students from the high scores group can more frequently use learning strategies than those from the low scores group,and there are significant differences on the use of metacognitive strategies,cognitive strategies and social strategies.However,for the affective strategies,there is no obvious difference.Finally,from the general view,there is the close correlation between the use of learning strategies and English performance.From the specific view,the significant and positive correlations exist on the use of cognitive strategies,metacognitive strategies and social strategies.The correlation coefficient of cognitive strategies is the highest,and then is followed by those of metacognitive strategies and social strategies.There is no obvious correlation between affective strategies with English performance.It is hoped that the results of the thesis can enrich the study field of learning strategies and give learners participating the MOOC instructions to improve appropriate learning strategies.
