The doctor-patient relationship is a hot topic in today’s society,the special interpersonal relationship between medical staffs and patients and their families in the course of long-term treatment,in terms of medical staffs,will affect the physical and mental health of them,and even their work engagement.There are other variables that may influence mechanism of perceived doctor-patient relationship and work engagement,such as prosocial motivation(the desire to have positive impacts on others and organizations)and work-related rumination(thinking work related issues or events after work).This study investigated the relationship between medical staff perceived doctor-patient relationship,prosocial motivation,work-related rumination and work engagement by using DDPRQ-10,Prosocial Motivation Scale,Work-Related Rumination Questionnaire(WRRQ)and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale(UWES).A total of 589 medical staffs from partial three level of first-class hospitals in Hebei,Heilongjiang,Shandong,Anhui,Beijing and other 24 provinces and cities participated in this survey.The independent sample T test,one-way ANOVA,correlation analysis,regression analysis,SEM and other statistical methods were used to analyze the results.Based on the literature review and theoretical analysis of the four variables,empirical study was conducted,the results are as follows:First,the medical staff perceived the doctor-patient relationship was in the middle to lower level,the prosocial motivation was in the upper middle level,work-related rumination was in the middle to upper level,and the work engagement was in the middle to upper level.Second,there are significant differences between the four variables in some demographic variables.Third,the medical staff perceived doctor-patient relationship,prosocial motivation and problem-solving pondering(a dimension of work-related rumination)positively predicted work engagement.Fourth,the prosocial motivation mediated the negative relationship between medical staff perceived doctor-patient relationship and work engagement.Fifth,the problem-solving pondering(a dimension of work-related rumination)mediated the positive relationship between prosocial motivation and work engagement.The results showed that medical staff perceived doctor-patient relationship can influenced work engagement through prosocial motivation and problem-solving pondering(a dimension of work-related rumination).Based on the results of this study,some suggestions were put forward to improve the work engagement of medical staffs.
