A Comparative Study Of Sub-black Humor In The Works Of Ian McEwan And Yu Hua

Ian McEwan and Yu Hua respectively are best-selling writers in England and China,the two writers created sub-black humor works,The two writers’ novels are not thoroughly reflect the colors of nihilism and non-rationalism,their criticism also limited to the social phenomenon of people and things,for the roots of these questions,they have not further discussion,thus it has less critical strength than black humor.Although sub-black humor pay attention to humor,it didn’t use the highest level of aesthetic meaning of humor irony,the result is the extent of critical on the low side.Then due to the effects of suppression of the social and political aspects,the sub-black humor as a kind of literature,which summarized the writing characteristics of two writers’ works since the 1990 s.Firstly,The introduction part of this article make a simple explanation of the definition of black humor and sub-black humor,mainly by comparing the two types of definitions to form a general understanding of the concept of sub-black humor.The first part of this article analyzes the primary causes of similarities between the two writers’ writing characteristics-sub-black humor,mainly from the writers’ similar personal experiences and creation background this two points to make analysis and comparison.The second part,from the aspects of the novel’s content to compare the sub-black humor of two writers’ creation,this part mainly by intensive reading method to analyze.The author divided the two creative characteristics into grim British style and warm Chinese style the two sub-black humor characteristics to analyze and compare,and then reach the corresponding conclusions.The third part,from the aspects of characters to compare the creation similarities and differences between the two writers,in general,the two writers both create a counterculture image,the author has divided it into two parts-counterculture image of“elite level“and counterculture image of“lower class“to discuss.The fourth part,from the aspects of creative skills to compare the characteristics between the two writers.This part uses intensive reading method too.The author divided the similarity of the two characteristics into rhetoric of irony and unreliablenarration to analyze,on the basis of their differences,the former narrative time interval in Saturday promote carrier,the latter to the skill of repeat in Chronicle of a Blood Merchant as carrier to analyze,in the end,the corresponding conclusions reached respectively.This article proposes a new type of literature-the sub-black humor through comparative analysis the similarities and differences between the two writers,thus it can open a new space of art of humor,as an innovative point of this paper,it also could extent the scope of literary criticism and aesthetic.
