A Report On Interpretation For The 2017 IFA International Aromatherapist Certification Examination

In the era of globalization,interpretation plays a vital role in international exchanges in politics,economy and culture.With the rapid development of society and the improvement of people’s living standard,people pay more attention to health issues.Therefore,Aromatherapy has become one of the 21 st century’s buzzwords.With essential oils and appropriate massage techniques,Aromatherapy can not only improve human body’s physique,regulate physiological functions,but also give people emotional healing,mental and physical health.As a result,aromatherapist has gradually been recognized by Chinese people in the past ten years,and the IFA International Aromatherapist Certification Examination is also taken seriously.This report,under the guidance of Translation Variation Theory of Huang Zhonglian,discusses the interpretation for the 2017 IFA International Aromatherapist Certification Examination.This interpretation practice mainly includes consecutive interpretation during the examination.Translation Variation Theory emphasizes the importance of “variation”.Variation is a kind of activity in which translators employ different variation methods such as addition,deletion,editing,narration,condensation,combination,adaptation to gear to the specific requirements of the target readers.In recent years,the theory has been applied in interpretation gradually.This report proposes variation tactics of deletion,addition and explanation to deal with the problems like information redundancy,information deficiency and culture-loaded words in this interpretation practice.This report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is description of the interpretation task that includes its background,feature and the requests of the client.The second chapter demonstrates the pre-task preparation,the process of the interpretation,the author’s and the client’s evaluations about this practice.The third chapter is case study under the guidance of Translation Variation Theory.It begins with the theory put by Professor Huang Zhonglian,and then discusses the application of it in the interpretation practice.After that,the author classifies and analyzes the problems in the interpretation practice and the interpretation tactic to testify the applicability of the theory in interpreting.In the final chapter,the author puts forward the prospect for future study and work,hoping to provide some references for future interpretation practices.
