Research On Walter Benjamin's Thought Of "Dialectical Image"

Facing the dream world created by capitalism,Walter Benjamin--“the last of the European intellectuals”--is soberly aware of many of the crises,he wants to wake those who immersed in the dream of capitalism,“Dialectical Image” is a unique way of thinking he used to awaken the masses.The thought of “Dialectical Image” involves many aspects of Benjamin's thoughts,such as epistemology,historical time,cultural criticism and redemption,it also embodies the integration of the two most important dimensions in his thoughts---theology and Marxism.Taking “Dialectical Image” as the domain,this thesis will completely present Benjamin's “Dialectical Image” thought from four aspects(historical background,theory origins,connotations,the ultimate goal).There are four parts in this thesis except the introduction:The first part focuses on the background of the “Dialectical Image” thought.The emergence of the thought of “Dialectical Image” is closely related to the decline of the humanistic spirit in Walter Benjamin's times.At the beginning of the 20 th century,when people were immersed in the dreamworld created by capitalism with technology and money,Benjamin saw the spiritual crisis under the cover of material civilization.The degeneration of language,the lack of experience,the dissipation of “aura” all highlight the culture crisis in the era of capitalism,and the “Dialectical Image” is produced in this background.The second part focuses on the theoretical sources of the thought of “Dialectical Image”.The thought of “Dialectical Image” is not produced in the air,it draws on the surrealism and Leibniz's monad theory,and combines Walter Benjamin's theory of “constellation” and “allegory” thought: First,Benjamin gains inspiration from surrealists' infatuation with dreams and their special creative methods,and reorganizes the material elements of the phenomenal world in real life;Second,based on Leibniz's monad theory,he combines his own “constellation” theory to connect the phenomenal world with the ideal world,the individual and the population,and realizes the ideological representation through the collage and resettlement of the phenomenon world-This is the early epistemological mode of "dialectical imagery";In the end,the idea of "dialectical imagery" is consistent with Benjamin's "allegory" theory.The allegory is that the "dialectical imagery" idea appeared early in the field of literature and art.The third part focuses on the connotation of the thought of “Dialectical Image ” and its implication of modernity criticism.The thought of “Dialectical Image” is closely related to the fragmented complex of Walter Benjamin,the thought of “Dialectical Image” is also the embodiment of his fragmented complex: Debunking the nature of the capitalist society by collecting phenomena that are seen as ruins in daily life.The resettlement of these phenomenal fragments gives an unfamiliar experience,which makes people re-examine the lustrous and dazzling society.Through the fragmented “Dialectical Image”,Walter Benjamin sees the falsehood of modern capitalist civilization and tries to identify and expose it.However,these phenomenological fragments can only constitute the "dialectical imagery" constellation in the melancholy eyes,and melancholy is the emotional basis of "dialectical imagery".This part mainly includes three aspects(“Dialectical Image” way of thinking,enmtional foundation and critique of capitalist modernity).The fourth part focuses on the redemption dimension of the thought of “Dialectical Image”.In the view of theological thinking,it is not the ultimate aim of “Dialectical Image” to identify the nature of the ruins of capitalist modernity,to realize the redemption of the modern capitalist society based on the criticism is the ultimate goal of the thought of “Dialectical Image”.In Benjamin's view,the bright future promised by capitalism is innocent,and the hope of redemption lies in the “ present moment” of “ dialectical image” flashing.People obtain secular enlightenment from the moment of “dialectical image” flashing,and thus resist the false identity of capitalism with a positive attitude,seek the totality of loss,realize the liberation of the spirit,and achieve the harmony of the original society.This part mainly includes three aspects(the redemption time,way,and the ultimate goal of redemption to be realized in “Dialectical Image”).
