Strategies For Translating Chinese Political Texts To English

In the context of the new era when the Communist Party of China(CPC)has developed a series of strategies concerning the governance of CPC and China according to the current social and political conditions,a large number of books are published in China dealing with both general introduction to and in-depth discussion on these new strategies and ideas.As China is faced with an increasing demand from other countries to know more about China's new political developments,there is a rising need for English translation of such books on the market.This thesis is a case study on the English translation of The Key Roles of the CPC in Addressing China's Issues,a book published in 2016 by the Renmin University of China Press in Beijing.Through an analysis of the textual characteristics manifested in vocabulary,sentence structures,rhetorical devices,and particularly China-specific political terms contained in the book,the thesis proposes some strategies for translating Chinese political texts of this kind into English with a focus on the readership acceptance,including appropriate supplement of information and explicitation of information.It is expected that this thesis will offer a helpful guidance for the translation of similar Chinese political texts in the future.
